The dream of having a baking business has its roots in
family history. Andrew Gillies, great-grandfather of Hannah,
was a prominent baker in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland for many years. His love of baking was passed down to his youngest daughter Morna, who loved to bake for the family and guests
she would entertain. Morna’s daughter Andrea had a childhood dream that was never realized and that was to have a family bakery just like her granddad’s where she could help her
mother run the business.

Andrea went beyond the tried and true family recipes for
her family and began baking fresh ground whole grain breads. She also branched into competing at the Medina County Fair. She even got all her children involved in baking for the Fair as a part of their home education requirements.

Hannah began competing at the fair at age 5. In her teens she twice won the title of Outstanding Junior Homemaker of the Year. Her dream of attending culinary school was at the top of her list of things to do. Graduating from the Culinary Arts Institute of Indianapolis in 2004, she was on the road to establishing her own licensed home bakery.

She began operating as “Just Desserts” offering a variety of desserts and cakes for all occasions. In 2008 the opportunity
to do wedding cakes expanded the business and has brought
about the change in the name of her business,
Sweet Endings Cakes and Confections.
